Australia’s Amphitheater

South Australia has numerous mountain ranges, the largest being known as Flinders Range. The Flinders Range is covers over 270 miles and its highest point is at St.Mary Peak and its 3,840. An Australian national park adjoins St.Mary’s Peak and houses a wildlife sanctuary and the Pichi Richi railway.

Having adapted to the semi-arid surroundings, the flora is made up of plants such as black oak and cypress-pines. The area has had an increase in wildlife by placing a permanent waterhole. Flinders Ranges is located in southern Australia and is the largest mountain range in that area. The highest peak, known as St.Mary’s Peak is in Wilpena Pound which is a landmark containing a natural amphitheatre covering 80 square kilometers.

Flinders Ranges, probably named after the European exploration party with Matthew Flinders in 1802, is a protected national park. In 1946 some of the oldest fossils of animal life were found in the renown Ediacara Hills. The biggest mountain range in South Australia is called Flinders Ranges. This is considered to be one of Australia’s premier landscapes.

One of it’s landmark is called Wilpena Pound, a natural amphitheater that contains the ranges’ highest peak named St.Mary Peak. Some places like Flinders Ranges National Park and Mount Remarkable National Park are protected as National Parks. Those who enjoy exploring ancient lands will be delighted by visiting this particular place in Tasmania. The nearest towns in these areas are Blinman and Hawker. The Arkaroola Wilderness Sanctuary can be found inside the Flinders Ranges also that can give you a spectacular mountain views, towering granite peaks and this is also the home of almost 160 species of birds and home of the endangered Yellow-footed Rock-wallaby. Flinders Ranges is a great choice for an adventurous getaway. It will amaze you with its coarse mountains and cliffs, breathtaking gorges, picturesque creeks and unique wildlife.

Apart from the amazing geo-wonders, one of the reasons this place is a tourist target is the fact that its been a home of the Aborigines for thousands of years. That’s why you can spot their old pictures on caves and rocks. You can see red and gray kangaroos, dragon lizards and wallaroos up close.
